A little disclaimer: I am definitely not an expert on folktales! Please forgive (and let me know of) any mistakes in the specifics of the stories/countries of origin. I have discovered many wonderful tales and am learning as I go. I have included links to the sources of the stories that I used. However, these sources can also make mistakes or omit parts. I realized (after I sent out the calendars this year), that many folktales transcend our modern political borders. In some cases, when I refer to a specific country, I really should have referred to a broader geographical area. These stories are usually very old and told through an oral tradition, so there can be many versions in multiple places and cultures. On each day's color/story, I will include any notes on what I may have learned since creating the calendar and would love to hear your thoughts and folktale suggestions for next year - please let me know.
Thank you for purchasing the Advent Calendar and for supporting Pancake and Lulu Yarn ~ I had a blast creating this for you.
Enjoy your crafting!

I was so excited when I randomly came across this painting by Velazquez while visiting the Prado in Madrid last month!!

Please note: I have replaced "Tikki Tikki Tembo" with different story for China: The Story of Chang'e & Jade Rabbit. After sending the Calendars, I discovered that "Tikki" may, in fact, come from Japan (my original source seems to have been wrong in attributing it to China). Thank you so much to Jeanine, for helping me out, by suggesting this beautiful Chinese tale as a replacement.
